Thalia M (Kulbacki) Coulter

Thalia M. Coulter, 89, of Northfield, passed away at Mtn. Ridge Genesis Healthcare on the Fourth of July, 2022.

Born in Hillsborough, NH, the daughter of Leopold and Agnes (Rumack) Kulbacki,

Thalia was raised in Hillsboro and Northfield. She attended Tilton-Northfield High School before returning to graduate from Hillsborough-Deering High School in 1951.

She attended commercial college and worked at the Guernsey Club to earn enough money to attend one year of nursing school, a three-year program. When she returned for her second year lacking funds to pay, she told the head mistresses, “I thought if God wanted me to be a nurse, he would help me find a way.” She received a scholarship enabling her to graduate from Laconia Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1956.

Her career began at Laconia Hospital, followed by Peterborough Hospital, and later at NH State Hospital and Concord Hospital. She also served as District Nurse for the towns of Tilton and Northfield. Finally, Thalia was nurse coordinator at NH Veterans Home, retiring in 1994 after 20 dedicated years. She was a member of the American Nurses Association, was certified as a Gerontological Nurse, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services from New Hampshire College.

A believer in serving her community, Thalia proudly volunteered for over 10 years at St. Vincent De Paul in Laconia. She was a communicant of the St. Mary Church of St. Gabriel Parish in Tilton.

Thalia enjoyed traveling and visited Europe, Canada, and much of the United States, always returning to her home state, which she described as “God’s Country.” She was especially intrigued by her Polish heritage, loved meeting people, enjoyed crossword puzzles, Jeopardy, and the color pink.

Family members include her children David Coulter and wife Ellen of Northfield, William E. Coulter, Sr. and wife Laurie of Northfield, and Linda Coulter and wife Dana Bjorklund of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; two grandchildren Shannon Coulter and William Coulter Jr. also of Northfield; and great grandchildren Natalia, Olivia, and Sophia Anderson, and Lilly and Blaine Coulter; and Thalia’s twin brother and “womb-mate,” William Steven Kulbacki and wife Fran of Pensacola, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by siblings Doris Durand, Lydia Clough, Frederick Kulbacki, Theodore Kulbacki, Etta Roberge, Evelyn Durand, Michael Kulbacki, and Catherine Hudson.

Thalia’s family is grateful for the excellent and loving nursing care provided by the caregivers at Mountain Ridge during her stay. Thalia often commented on how hard they worked, knowing from experience how challenging that job can be.

A service will be held at Paquette-Neun Funeral Home, 104 Park St., in Northfield on July 11 at 2 PM.
