Franklin…James A. Marchi, 98, of Franklin, passed away at the NH Veterans Home in Tilton on Nov.21, 2021.
Jim was born in Burlington, MA on April 30, 1923 the youngest son of Valentino and Julia (Tedeschi) Marchi.
He was raised in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School in 1941. Jim served in the US Army from 1943 until 1946 as a Spec/5 and was part of Patton’s 3rd Army at the Normandy invasion. Following the service, he resided in Ashland before moving to Franklin.
He owned and operated Marchi’s Auto Body in Franklin for over 25 years. Jim volunteered at the Franklin Police and Fire Departments for many years. Following retirement, he continued to work at various local hardware stores and enjoyed traveling around country.
Jim was a communicant of St. Paul Church and was a member and former Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council 12147. Jim was also a member of Franklin V.F.W. Post 1698.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, summers on Lake Winnipesaukee, woodworking and building birdhouses.
Family members include his wife of nearly 75 years, Josephine (Dion) Marchi, 2 sons: James Lee Marchi and Kirby Dean Marchi and his wife Brenda of Hampton, NH, 5 grandchildren; Melynda Marchi, Stefani Lummen and her husband Pat, Jason Marchi and his wife Janine, Nicholas Marchi and his wife Hillary, and Lilli Marchi, 5 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 29, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Paul Church, 110 School St., Franklin, NH. Burial will be at Green Grove Cemetery in Ashland with military honors at a later date.
