Obituary

Jacqueline “Jackie” (Remillard) Nevin, age 83, formerly of Salisbury, New Hampshire, and Brewster, Massachusetts, passed away Wednesday April 20, 2022 at Havenwood Heritage Heights, Concord, NH, after a brief illness.

She was born in Putnam, CT in October 1938 to “Bill” Remillard and his wife Cecelia Kaczynski Remillard. Jackie was a graduate of Orleans High School, and completed courses with the Stenographer Institute, working as a Court Stenographer. She met and married “Jack” Nevin of Orleans, in June 1957 at St Joan of Arc Church, Orleans, MA. Jackie ran the Brewster Variety Store, part of the Jolly Whaler Village, from 1963 to 1978. At one time Jackie had the only Diver tank refill station on the Cape, and bartered “Free” tank refills for Lobster. She raised three children, Jolene, Jay and Jeff. Jackie was a league candlepin bowler, enjoyed ceramics and loved Irish Setters and cats. She was active in the Brewster Planning Board and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary during her years living in Brewster. She was one of the founders of the New England Mini Cycle Association, facilitating mini cycle races for kids. In 1978 she moved with her husband and sons to Salisbury, NH, where she worked for the State of NH Retirement Division and TD Bank North. Jackie continued to support the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, rising to NH State President and working closely at the National Level with VFW initiatives across many States. Jackie worked tirelessly to fund the Veteran Murals now in place at the NH Veteran Chapel in Boscawen, NH.

Jackie enjoyed ocean cruises with friends, family and VFW events. She also toured Europe on Triumph 650 motorcycles with friends, even exploring behind the Iron Curtain. She traveled England and Scotland with her daughter and granddaughter to visit friends. Jackie managed through not one, but two home fires, rebuilding her home each time.

She is survived by her sister Paulette Nevin and her brother-in-law Neal Nevin, her daughter Jolene, husband Jim, granddaughter Kathryn, great granddaughter Vivienne, her son Jay, his wife Michelle and step daughters, her son Jeff, his partner Pam, his children and grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephew from Florida to New England.
