Franklin, NH... Mr. Valmore W. Beaupre, 88, a lifetime Franklin resident, recently of NH Veterans Home, died at Franklin Regional Hospital on Jan. 5, 2012. Val was born in Franklin on May 30, 1923 the son of Herve and Mariette (Hebert) Beaupre. He attended local schools and graduated from Franklin High School in 1942. During World War II, he served in the US Navy and Marines as a Pharmacists Mate Second Class. Following his military service, he attended New England Institute of Applied Sciences, Anatomy, and Embalming and worked in the funeral profession for a few years. Most of his life, Val was a barber in Franklin where he operated Val's Barber Shop for many years. Many remember the children's horse they sat on while getting their first haircut. Val also would go to people's homes to give haircuts. He later worked at the Laconia State School and cut hair at nursing homes including the NH Veterans Home and the Merrimack County Nursing Home. While at the State School in Laconia, he painted many murals mostly of animals, jungles, and Disney characters. Val and his late wife, Bertha (Hubbard) Beaupre, greatly enjoyed dancing. They saw many ""Big Bands"" during the 1940's. Val was a life member of Franklin VFW Post 1698, Franklin Lodge of Elks #1280, and the Knights of Columbus. He helped at Bingo for many years at the Elks, K of C, NH Veterans Home, and the VFW. He was a member and former Vice President of the Franklin Junior Chamber of Commerce. Val also competed in local bowling leagues. Besides his wife Bertha who died in 2009, he was predeceased by a son, Scott who died in 2000, and his brother Donald. Family members include his daughter, Lee Ann Doucette and her husband Scott of Franklin, 5 sons: Keith Beaupre of Beaumont, TX, Glenn Beaupre and his wife Mary of Thornton, Mark Beaupre and Carl Beaupre, both of Franklin, and Todd Beaupre and his wife Joannie of Tilton, 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, a sister, Jacqueline McNabb of Franklin, and nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held Monday, Jan. 9th from 2-4 and 6-9 pm at Thibault-Neun Funeral Home, 143 Franklin St., Franklin. Funeral services will be at the funeral home Tuesday (Jan. 10th) at 11:00 am. Burial will be in NH Veterans Cemetery Wednesday at 10 am. His family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at NH Veterans Home for their loving care of Val.
