Samuel Lapenta

Samuel P. LaPenta, 94, formerly of Alton, NH, died at NH Veterans Home in Tilton on Oct.7, 2012. He was born in Wilmington, DE on July 17, 1918 the son of Michael and Genoveffa (D'Aniello) LaPenta. Mr. LaPenta was raised in Wilmington and later resided in Richmond, VA, Schenectady, NY, and Aiken, SC before moving to Alton, NH in 1994. He had previously summered in Alton for several years. He was graduate of the University of Delaware in 1942 receiving his degree in chemical engineering. During World War II, he served as a Captain in the US Army mostly in the Pacific Theater. He met his wife, who served in the Navy, during his time in the service. For many years, Mr. LaPenta worked for Dupont as a chemical engineer retiring in 1980. He was a true family man, always enjoying the time spent with his family. He also enjoyed gardening, bird watching, photography, and his dog "Lucky." Family members include his wife of 66 years, Josephine (Donohue) LaPenta of Tilton, 6 children: Dr. Michael J. LaPenta and his wife Rev. Dorothy LaPenta of Annapolis, MD, Mary E. Bohm and husband Manfred of Kingwood, TX, Peter J. LaPenta of Alton, NH, Dr. John J. LaPenta and his wife Marie of Bennington, VT, Patricia L. Tully and husband Joseph of Chester Springs, PA, and Anne L. Measell and husband Keith of Richmond, VA, 16 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, a sister, Louise Matteoli of Frankford, DE, a brother, Carmen LaPenta of Wilmington, DE, and nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 at 10 am in St. Mary of The Assumption Church, Chestnut St., Tilton, NH. Burial will follow at NH Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen, NH. Donations in memory of Mr. LaPenta may be made to NH Veterans Home, 139 Winter St., Tilton, NH 03276.
