Mrs. Ruby W. Keegan, 87, of Pine St., Franklin, died at the Peabody Home on Dec. 11, 2005. She was born in West Andover, NH on May 2, 1918 the daughter of Charles and Sara (Stevens) Whittemore. Mrs. Keegan was raised in West Andover and was a graduate of the former Andover High School. She graduated from Keene Normal School in 1942 with a degree in Education. She taught high school English in Littleton, Tamworth, Goffstown, and the former Tilton-Northfield High School. Mrs. Keegan was librarian at Tilton-Northfield High School for several years and taught at St. Mary School in Franklin. Later in her career, she established and ran the libraries at Paul Smith and Bessie Rowell Elementary Schools in Franklin. She was as a substitute teacher in the Franklin and Winnisquam School Districts for many years. . Mrs. Keegan was a very active member of the Swift Water Girl Scout Council. She served as troop leader for GS Troop 275 and volunteered with GS Troop 293. She was Neighborhood Chairman and Council officer. She was instrumental in raising funds for Troop 293?s trip to Mexico and Troop 275?s trip to Washington, DC. For her outstanding service to Girl Scouting, she received the ?Thanks? badge and the Catholic Girl Scout St. Anne Religious Emblem. Mrs. Keegan was also a Den Mother with Cub Scout Pack 145 in Franklin. Mrs. Keegan was an longtime member of the Franklin Regional Hospital Auxiliary where she served as secretary and president, and began the ?Lights of Memory? Tree program . She served on the Hospital?s Board of Directors. Mrs. Keegan was a member of Franklin Business and Professional Women's Assn. and was a recipient of the Professional Woman of the Year. She also was a former Board member of the Peabody Home. Mrs. Keegan was a communicant of St. Paul Church. Family members include her husband of 60 years, Mr. John F. Keegan of Franklin, 8 children: John D. Keegan of Boscawen, Anne S. Moskal of New Britain, Ct., Thomas M. Keegan of Bristol, Kathleen A. Malsbenden of Bow, Timothy R. Keegan of Wells, Maine, William B. Keegan of Post Mills, Vt., Margaret K. Crockett of St. Louis, Mo., and Elizabeth J. Healy of Portsmouth, 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, a sister, E. Belle Fitzgerald of Winchester, Mass. and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Alice P. Whittemore, Emily E. Whittemore, and Annie W. Thompson, and two brothers: David Whittemore and James Whittemore. Visiting hours will be held Friday, Dec.16 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Thibault-Neun Funeral Home, 143 Franklin St., Franklin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 17th at 10 am at St. Paul Church, School St., Franklin. Spring burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Franklin.
