Rolland Michelin

Rolland Michelin, 92, died peacefully Monday, August 20, 2012 at Sun Towers, Sun City Center, Florida. He was born in Franklin, N.H., the third child of Oscar and Marie Louise Michelin on September 3, 1919. He worked at Scott and Williams in Laconia for forty years, much of that time as an assistant foreman, before moving to Boynton Beach, Florida in 1980 with his wife Alice Michelin. He was a natural athlete particularly in the winter sports of ice skating and skiing, but after his retirement to Florida, he became a focused golfer, winning many trophies. The gusto he brought to competition of any kind had in it much good-natured joshing. His and his wife's ballroom dancing provided them their most pleasurable pastime until her health declined. Rolland then became her sole caretaker, an exceptionally generous one. Not until the last few months of her life did he resort to a nursing home for her. Still he continued to visit her every day. She pre-deceased him in 2007 soon after their 65th wedding anniversary. And through it all, the rhythm of winters in Florida and summers in New Hampshire had kept the generations of their growing family deeply meshed. Rolland is survived by his four children, Linda Johnson and her husband, Donald, of Lebanon, N.H., Richard Michelin and his partner William Stewart of Haddon Township, N.J., John Michelin and his wife Lee Ann of Franklin, N.H., and Jane Mayhew and her husband Robert of Sun City Center, Fla.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held Friday, Aug. 24, 2012 from 6-8:00 pm at Thibault-Neun Funeral Home, 143 Franklin St., Franklin, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 at 10 am in St Paul Church, School St, Franklin. Burial will be Monday, Aug. 27th at 9:30 am in Holy Cross Cemetery.
