Robert Sanborn

February 16, 1923 — July 25, 2011

Tilton, NH Robert ""Bob"" Sanborn, 88, died July 25, 2011 at NH Veterans Home following a long illness. Bob was born Feb. 16, 1923 in Philadelphia the son of the late Arthur and Mabel (Ringer) Sanborn. Bob joined the Army Air Force Infantry in 1943. He was an airplane sheet metal worker and fought under General Patton. He received the Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Bob was married to the late Dorothy May Sanborn. They settled in Epsom in 1969 where they remained for the next thirty years. He worked as a crane operator and retired in 1985. Bob had many hobbies, in his early years he enjoyed talking with people all over the world on his ham radio and he loved to set up model railroads. Through his deep love of the organ and piano, he taught himself how to play. Bob cam to NH Veterans Home in 1999 after his wife passed away. It did not take him long to make it his home and adopt the staff as his family. Almost every day during his twelve years there, he played favorite hymns on the piano. The staff will always remember him by the way he announced himself when he made his entrance by saying ""Sanborn here."" In celebration of his life, services with military honors will be held at the NH Veterans Cemetery Chapel, in Boscawen on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bob may be made to NH Veterans Home Resident Benefit Fund, 139 Winter St., Tilton, NH 03276. Paquette-Neun Funeral Home ( www.neunfuneralhomes.com ) in Northfield is assisting with the services.
