Phyllis Virginia May Martin, 81 of Northfield passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024 after a long illness.
Born March 23, 1943 to Rodrick Bowen and Pearl Young in Lunenburg, VT delivered by midwife in a private home near the Connecticut River.
Phyllis was a hardworking single parent. Spent her early working career as a server in restaurants, diners and later in major hotels and resorts in New Hampshire and Florida. Including The Mountainview Grand Hotel in Whitefield NH and the Belleview Biltmore in Belleair, FL, traveling between the two states in off seasons. Later in life her career took her to the manufacturing sector across many Industries, paper mills, furniture mfg., and machining. Phyllis retired from New Hampshire Ball Bearing in Laconia, NH.
Phyllis enjoyed traveling, antiques, game shows, playing cards at family gatherings. Phyllis was always attempting to organize her collections which she had many. One of her favorite sayings was "It doesn’t make sense." She was always trying to make logical sense of the world around her.
Phyllis is predeceased by her mother and father, a sister (Diane), an infant sister (Mary) and a nephew (Nathan) and a niece (Joanne) and her ex-husband David. She is survived by her longtime friend and roommate Sandy, her son Douglas (Doug) and his children, Doug, Michelle and Owen, her brother Robert (Bob) Malanson, sister Mable and her husband David Fox and their daughter Melanie and her family, sister Bonnie and husband Norman Cotter and their children Richard and Amy and their families, sister Linda and husband Wally Krauss and children Rebecca and Christine.
Phyllis had 3 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be at Paquette-Neun Funeral Home, 104 Park St., Northfield on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, with visitation from 10-11 am followed by a service at 11:00. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
