Muriel L. Battye, 91, of Franklin NH, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2020 at the Merrimack County Nursing Home, Boscawen NH. She was born in Franklin on February 14, 1928 the daughter of Earl Picard and Beatrice (Hines) Picard.

Muriel graduated from Franklin High School in 1946 where she was a member of several clubs. After graduation she married her husband George (Bud) Battye, who died February 1986. For many years she worked for the Webster Valve Company in Franklin as a machinist until retirement. Muriel enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing with her husband and children. She was creative and artistic, enjoying clothing design and sewing, painting, knitting, and stained glass. She got great pleasure in passing down her creations. Later in life she was active in the Red Hat Society and the local Senior Center. Muriel had a great love for animals and made numerous donations to animal rights organizations.

Family members include two children Janva Adams and husband Stephen Adams of Franklin, Bruce Battye and wife Ruth Battye of Salisbury and her brother Earl (Sonny) Picard of Amherst NH, 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen NH where she will be laid to rest with her loving husband.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Franklin Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 265, Franklin NH 03235 or a charity of one's choice.
