Merton Frank Swett

Merton Frank Swett passed away early Monday morning, July 31, 2017 at the NH Veterans Home in Tilton.  Mert was born in Franklin, NH the son of Nelson and Dorothy (Gray) Swett and spent most of his childhood in Hill.  With his family, he moved to Franklin when the US Army Corps of Engineers relocated most of the town to provide a Flood Control reservoir.



Mert entered the Army in World War II and was commissioned in the Army Air Corps as a flight warrant office and instructor for the "new" B-29 Superfortresses.  His assignment in the military kept him stateside.



After WWII, he married Bertha Aline Pelchat, daughter of George and Anna (Chabot) Pelchat of Laconia.  They had five children, Dennis, Dorothy, Eric, Diane, and Donna.  Merton's family lived in Franklin, Gilford, and Framingham, MA.  Mert is also survived by his brother, Lawrence (Larry) Swett of Franklin. He was predeceased by his wife Bertha, and two children, Dorothy (Dottie) and Eric.



Mert's grandchildren are Jason Swett, Wendy Brulotte, Shea Swett, Benjaman Swett, Derek Salvato, and Ryan Salvato.



Visiting hours will be Friday, Aug. 4, 2017 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Thibault-Neun Funeral Home, 143 Franklin St., Franklin.  A service will be held at 1:00 pm and burial will follow at Franklin Cemetery.
