Maynard Elton Lancaster, 81, went home to his Lord and Savior on January 12, 2024. He was born in Lincoln, ME the only son of Elton and Elizabeth (Kneeland). He served almost 3 years in the US Army as a mechanic stationed in Germany.
After his first marriage to Sheila Judkins ended in divorce, he married Alice (Walshaw, deceased October 2019) and spent close to 50 years together raising their family and moving around the Northeast – NH, PA, NY and NJ. Maynard had 6 children: Corliss (Monica), Dan, Gina (Gavin) Sorge, John (Doris) Dorval, Carlene (Joe) Keniston, and Kevin (Mary); 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren + 2 more on the way this year. Preceding him in death were 2 sisters Carol Barton and Dee Eastman. He is survived by his sister Sharon Daniels and many nieces & nephews.
Maynard was raised in a logging camp and followed his father and grand-father into logging/land-clearing. He was most at home in the woods and became a legend in the industry, admired and respected by all who worked with him. He was also a devout Christian who was actively involved in his local church communities and enjoyed spreading the word of God and his faith. Known to many friends by his initials, MEL, he will be remembered for his famous Mel jokes (really bad Dad jokes) and Mel shortcuts - which somehow always seemed to take longer.
Family and friends have fond memories of him organizing neighborhood baseball games, many hunting and fishing trips, camping, game nights, his love of country music and his amazing sense of humor. His greatest love was spending time with family. Maynard was a true gentleman, and one of the kindest individuals to ever walk this land.
A Celebration of Life and internment at the NH Veterans Cemetery are planned for later this year. A special thank you goes out to the staff of the NH Veterans Home whose compassionate care helped Maynard find comfort in his last few years. Donations in his honor can be sent to the home at 139 Winter Street, Tilton, NH 03276.
