Call to Order Flowers by Phone1-877-212-3610 Code: 2001526P Mrs. Mary S. King, 90, formerly of Portland, CT and Laconia and Franklin, NH died at Merrimack County Nursing Home on Aug. 23, 2016. She resided in Portland for 37 years and later in Middletown , CT before moving to Laconia in 2005 to be near her daughter. She was born in Hartford, CT on May 6, 1926 the daughter of Edmund and Mabel (Wilton) Saunders. Mary was raised in West Hartford and graduated from Mt. St. Joseph High School in 1944, from St .Francis Hospital School of Nursing in 1947 and later went on to graduate from Middlesex Community College in Middletown, Conn with an Associate Degree in Drug and Alcohol Counseling . She previously worked at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, CT and for many years as Dr. Barton's Office Nurse in Portland, CT. Mary was last employed by the State of CT as Coordinator of Drug & Alcohol Programs at CT Valley Hospital in Middletown retiring in 1987. While in Portland, she attended St. Mary Church and was a member of the Rosary Altar Guild. Later in life she was professed into the Secular Franciscan Order, a community of Catholic Men and Women who seek to pattern their lives after Christ in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi. She touched many lives and was an inspiration to all who had the privilege to know her. Family members include 3 children: Ellen Douville and her husband Dennis of Bridgewater, NH, Kathleen Marie King and her companion Leonard Ceravone of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Edmund J. King and his wife Susan of Hubert, NC, 4 grandchildren, Daniel Douville and his wife Tammy of Bridgewater, NH, Alex Douville and his wife Jennifer of Rockville, MD, Christopher King and his wife Poorvi of Morrisville, NC, and Melissa Tinch and her husband Timothy of Wilmington, NC plus 7 great -grandchildren(Courtney, Alexis, Mattison, Joshua, Nathaniel, William and Andrew) who called her "Great Mary", plus a sister-in-law, Elaine Saunders of Vernon, CT and nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband William(Bill) King, Grandson Matthew Douville, her parents, brother Alexander Saunders and sister Alice Weldon. The family is forever thankful for the kind, caring and compassionate staff at the Merrimack County Nursing Home whom she would call "her girls". Funeral services will be held in Portland, CT at a later date. Donations in memory of Mrs. King may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 6 Chenell Dr., Suite 260, Concord, NH 03301.
