Lois H. Caveney

November 24, 1925 — August 10, 2024

Lois Ann (Howe) Caveney
Lois Caveney, 98, passed away peacefully at her home on August 10, 2024 with family at her side. Through God’s grace she is now at peace in life everlasting. Lois was born in Laconia, on November 24, 1925 to Herbert and Beulah (Demerse) Howe. She spent her childhood in Tilton, then moved to Northfield for the remainder of her life. She was a loving wife to Richard “Dude” Caveney for nearly sixty years until his death in 2003. Together they raised four children and enjoyed dancing, camping, motorcycle riding, and time with family. They were members of the Belknap Rangers Motorcycle Club, which held many family activities and charitable events.
Lois was a cherished wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She spent her life always helping and giving to others. She served on the Northfield Bicentennial Committee, and was a founding member of the Northfield Historical Society, serving several terms as President. She found great joy in service to God and was a life-long member of the Tilton-Northfield United Methodist Church. There she was a past choir member, held many leadership and support roles, and served on a number of boards and committees over her lifetime. She spent seventeen years as a Sunday School teacher, decades as President of the United Methodist Women, formerly the Woman’s Society of Christian Service of which she served as secretary for ten years. She enjoyed her trips as a lay representative to the annual New Hampshire Conference of the United Methodist Church. With the UMW ladies group, she devoted herself to fundraising and community service events including rummage sales, church suppers, sunshine baskets, bake sales, booths and parade floats for Old Home Day, Christmas fairs and flea markets. She led fundraising efforts to repair stained glass windows and to build the bell tower after the church relocated from downtown to a new building on West Main Street. She was a meticulous event planner, loved bringing people together and made everyone feel welcome. Lois was a true blessing to all who knew her.
For her family, she was our heart, taught us how to live and love, and will forever be our shining light.
Lois was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Richard Caveney; her parents Herbert and Beulah Howe; sisters Barbara Aiken, Margaret Webster, and Phyllis Dresser; brother George Howe; son-in-law Robert Clogston Sr.; and great-grandson Damon Boles. She is survived by her sons: Carl Caveney (Karen) of Sanbornton, NH, and Calvin Caveney (Sharon Woodward) of Northfield, NH; daughters Carol Caveney Clogston of Sebring, FL, and Cindy Caveney (Shawn Brown) of Northfield, NH; grandchildren Cathy Caveney, Alan Caveney, Robert Clogston, Jr., Jeffery Clogston, Gabriel Clogston, Lisa Corbeil, Cari Bernash, Felicia Bussiere, and Christopher Caveney; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister-in-law Alma Howe; and several nieces and nephews.

The Caveney family would like to give special thanks to Raquel, Penny, Joy and Peg, the caregivers that provided love, excellent care and companionship to Lois. She most enjoyed beating them at cards, sharing stories about her life, and having them paint her nails. To her church family, and friends in her swim group that always stayed in touch, it meant so much and she loved you all.
Memorial donations may be sent to Living Waters United Ministries, PO Box 119, Tilton, NH 03276 or to a charity of one’s choice.
