Leonard Hines

d. February 1, 2010

Lennie ""Zip"" Hines, 77, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2010 at Franklin Regional Hospital following a two year battle with cancer. Lennie was born in Franklin to Leonard and Margaret (Leclair) Hines. Raised in Franklin, he attended local schools, graduating from Franklin High School in 1952. Shortly after graduation, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life Rita Nadeau of Laconia. As war raged on in the Korean peninsula, Lennie enlisted in the U.S.Navy serving aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Midway. Upon completing his tour of duty and being honorably discharged, Lennie returned to Franklin and with his dear wife at his side, raised three children: Mike, Bob, and Sandy. He was employed by Insulfab in Franklin as a tool and die maker, eventually becoming the tool room supervisor and closing out his career with Insulfab as the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering. Retiring in 1996 after 40 years of service. Lennie was long known for his love of hunting and fishing. Whether it was salmon fishing on Lake Winnipesaukee; the lakes or streams of the great north woods in Pittsburgh; or deer hunting in NH, Maine, or Vermont, he so enjoyed the friendship and camaraderie these experiences would bring. He was a lifetime member of the Franklin Lodge of Elks #1280 and a member of the VFW Post 1698. But Lennie will be especially remembered for his quick wit; infectious sense of humor and his deep love of his family and friends. Family members in addition to his wife of 57 years Rita, include oldest son Mike Hines and his wife Caroline of Hill; Bob Hines and his wife Sue of Franklin; and his daughter Sandy Rondeau and her companion Fred ""Buzzy"" Kelley, also of Franklin, his sister Dolly Cox & her husband Russ of Franklin. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Dan, Andrew, & Peter Hines; Dan, Emily & Kelly Hines; and Julie Rondeau, also three great grandchildren, Deagan, Ricky, and Danielle, along with nephews and cousins. Funeral services will take place Saturday, Feb. 6th at 10:00 am in St. Paul Church, School St., Franklin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Veterans Memorial Ski Area, c/o Cathy Fuller, Franklin Outing Club, 200 Prospect St., Franklin, NH 03235; or to the Franklin VNA Hospice Program, 75 Chestnut St., Franklin, NH 03235.
