John H. "Jack" Reid Sr.
November 18, 1928 — October 7, 2023
John (Jack), H. Reid, Sr. 94, of Alexandria, NH, died peacefully surrounded by his loving children on October 7, 2023 at the VA Hospital in Tilton, New Hampshire after a long illness. Jack was born in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Roland Reid, Sr., and Marion (Sheerin) Reid. As a young man, Jack was an avid sportsman who loved kayak racing, sailing, hunting, skiing and fishing. He graduated from Jamacia Plain High School in Boston, Massachusetts and served in the US Army.
Jack was predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Kathleen M (Sheehan) Reid and daughter, Nancy J. Reid, a Daughter-in-law, Julie Reid, a Son-in-law, George P. Huntoon, a Granddaughter, Jennifer (Reid), Walker. Jack is survived by eight of his nine children; John H. Reid, Jr. (Joyce), of Litchfield, Elizabeth R. Morrison (John P), of Bristol, Robert G. Reid (Beryl), of Alexandria, Kellie A. Braconier (Karl), of Hebron, Theresa K. Reid of Wynantskill, NY, Karen M. Huntoon (George), of Dover, MA, David M. Reid (Cindy), of Laconia, and Peter L. Reid (Melissa), of New Hampton, twenty-three grandchildren, and several great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild as well as a brother and sister in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Jack served as a Police Officer in Needham, Massachusetts where he won many awards for his marksmanship. Later when he and his family moved to Alexandria, New Hampshire in 1971, he owned his own business; J Reid & Sons Concrete. Upon retiring, Jack could be found puttering in his garden growing flowers for his wife, as well as fruits and vegetables. Jack continued his love of kayaking, sailing and skiing well into his 80’s!
Visiting hours will be held at Marian Center, 17 West Shore Road, Bristol, NH on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 from 9-10:00AM. The Mass of Christian Burial begins at 10:00AM at Our Lady of Grace Chapel, 2 West Shore Rd. Please join the children and family of Jack Reid for a luncheon at the Marian Center after the Mass. The children have requested a private family internment service at NH Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
