Jennie Bonk, 97, of Franklin, NH died Friday September 9, 2022, at home following a brief illness under the care of Granite State VNA Hospice and family members. Jennie was a lover of all things Polish, Scrabble, crossword puzzles, bowling, and the Granite State. Few people are prouder of their state than Jennie was of New Hampshire.
She was born in Lowell, MA on August 8, 1925, the daughter of John and Louise (Swierad) Bonk. She moved with her family to West Bow Street in Franklin in 1927. She later moved to The Hemlocks in Tilton and then settled at Golden Crest Retirement Community where she has resided for the past four years. There, she enjoyed independent living under the care of a talented, superior, and extremely dedicated staff.
Jennie was pre-deceased by her parents and her beloved brother, Fred John Bonk, Sr., and her sister-in-law, Marion Ellen Bonk. She is survived by her two nephews: Fred and his wife Marilyn and Stanley and his wife Charlyn. She is also survived by her two treasured great-nephews: Gregory and his wife Ana and Dylan.
She attended Franklin public schools and graduated in 1943 as Secretary of the Senior Class. Following high school she worked at the Shaw Insurance Agency, the Stevens Woolen Mill in Franklin, Tilton Tanning & Leather and retired from the NH Fish and Game Department after 27 years of service. Her position at Fish and Game was highly satisfying and rewarding.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, September 16 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul Church of St. Gabriel Parish, 108 School St., Franklin. Friends may call at the Thibault-Neun Funeral Home on Friday morning 9:30-10:30 a.m. at 143 Franklin Street Burial following her funeral service will be in Holy Cross cemetery.
