Call to Order Flowers by Phone1-877-212-3610 Code: 2001526P Contoocook, NH George Winfield Nichols, 90, of Contoocook, passed away Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, at New Hampshire Veteran's Home. He was born in Woburn, MA on Feb. 22, 1924 the youngest of six children and the son of William Albert and Nellie Violet (Blake) Nichols. He joined the Army in 1943 and as a 19 year-old U.S. Army medic he was wounded trying to save the lives of wounded American soldiers during the Battle of Anzio in Italy during World War II. He was awarded two Bronze Star medals for his heroism. Afterwards, he worked for Monsanto Company for 46 years. George married Patricia Wood of Somerville, MA in 1946 and settled in Lexington, MA. He was predeceased by her in 1994. He is survived by his two daughters, Linda D. Nichols of Warner, NH, and Susan C. Graziano and her husband Gary of Contoocook. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Kristin L. Wolfe and her husband Ethan, Brandon G. Graziano and Michelle S. Graziano, all of Contoocook. Two bright spots in his life were his two great-granddaughters, Emily Wolfe and Rylee Hymel. He loved country music, the outdoors, fishing, and bird watching, but most of all he adored spending time with his family. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Red Sox, Bruins, and New England Patriots. He was a member of the Scottish Rite in the Valley of Concord, NH and was also a Shriner. George was raised as a Master Mason in 1955 and was a Mason for 59 years. He was a member of Harris Lodge #91 in Warner, NH. George was someone you did not soon forget. His quick sense of humor and devilish grin will be missed by all of those who knew him. There will be no calling hours. A Masonic Service and Military Honors will be held together in the spring at NH Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
