Eugene Heighton, 78 passed away on October 31st 2023, at the NH Veteran’s Home in Tilton, NH.
Gene grew up in Lexington, MA. Although he kept in touch with many of his classmates up until recent years, after high school he went on to Boston University. From there, he pursued his passion for flight at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Institute in Daytona, FL. He also served in the US Army in Flight Operations for a couple years. After serving in the army, he came back to his Massachusetts roots where he met his wife, Sarah (Rumery) Heighton. They lived in Amherst for more than 30 years. There they raised their two daughters, Kelley Heighton from Elmsford, NY and Samantha Heighton from Merrimack, NH. Sarah Heighton passed away in 2005. He found love again when moving to Milford and meeting Joan Lyons. They enjoyed their time together and she took care of him up until his most recent time at the Veteran’s home.
Throughout his life, Gene devoted his life to not only his family, but his passion for volunteering. He always had a community project going whether it was leading the church youth group in his early days or being Santa Claus later in life which he made a seasonal career out of. Besides Santa Claus, he also made a career as a self-employed travel agent, a technology specialist at PC Connection and numerous other jobs over his lifetime. With his many accomplishments, he will be remembered as being “grand” in life and his positive attitude.
He will be always known as “PopPop” to his 4 grandchildren, Cameron 17 and Lilly 11 of Merrimack and Alicia 22 and Derek 7 of Yuma, AZ.
There will be a service at The Amherst Congregational Church in Amherst, NH on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 10:00 am. All are welcome.
