Eugene Cushing

Franklin, NH Eugene A. Cushing, 82, of Franklin, died on Feb. 6, 2012. Gene was born in Franklin on Dec. 24, 1929 the youngest son of Patrick J. and Frances (Weston) Cushing. He was raised in Franklin and graduated from the University of NH. While in Franklin, he was a valued member of the Bow St. Tigers, the best baseball team of the 1930's and winner of the finals against cross-town rivals the Elkin St. Lions. During the Korean War, Gene served as a lieutenant in the US Air Force becoming the ninth member of his family to serve in the U. S. military. Eight siblings served during World War II. He enjoyed golfing and organized and became President of the Bethesda Golf Club. Gene also played at Lochmere Country Club in Tilton. Gene had a successful career in the insurance business prior to retiring. Gene was a member of St. Paul Church in Franklin. He is survived by 2 brothers and their wives, Hon. Donald W. Cushing and his wife Claire of Scarborough, ME, and Thomas W. Cushing and his wife Millie of Hopkinton, NH and Hobe Sound, FL, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 3 sisters: Laura Kelly, Ruth Cushing, and Alice Cushing, and 6 brothers: Bernard Cushing, Lawrence Cushing, Arthur Cushing, Raymond Cushing, Andrew Cushing, and Robert Cushing. An hour of visitation will be held Saturday (Feb. 11th) from 8:30 - 9:30 at Thibault-Neun Funeral Home, 143 Franklin St., Franklin, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 am in St. Paul Church, School St., Franklin, NH. Spring burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Franklin.
