It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Burton Briggs, who departed this life on Wednesday, April 23rd, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on Tuesday, May 14th, 1935, in Nashua, NH, Edward was a longtime resident of Franklin, NH, at the time of his passing.

Edward was a dedicated educator who spent 26 years as the Assistant Superintendent of Schools for SAU 46 in Penacook, where he shaped countless lives with his wisdom and leadership. He held a bachelor’s degree in business education from Keene State College and a master’s degree from Boston University, reflecting his commitment to lifelong learning.
A proud veteran, Edward served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1954 to 1962, attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. His service to the nation was a cornerstone of his life, as was his involvement in his community. He completed scouting as an Eagle Scout, He was a past President of the Franklin Kiwanis and cherished the vibrant discussions and camaraderie this esteemed organization offered.

In his leisure, Edward found joy in the great outdoors. He was a lifetime camera enthusiast, capturing moments through his lens, and enjoyed camping for many years at the Shamrock RV Park in Biddeford, ME. Most recently he wintered in Barefoot Bay, FL. He was also an avid reader and computer enthusiast, teaching skiing at the Veterans Memorial Ski Area, staying engaged with the world and the wonders of technology throughout his life.

Edward is survived by his devoted family, who will forever cherish his life and legacy: his son, Robert Briggs and his wife Kimberly of Franklin, his daughter, Catherine Riley and her husband Mark of Hampstead, NH; ; and his cherished grandchildren, Ashley Briggs and fiancé Matthew Compton of Bent Mountain, VA, Kira Reisdorf and her husband John of Portsmouth, Erin Russell and her husband Mike of Dorchester, MA, and Robbie Briggs and his wife Meghann of Brighton, MI. He is also survived by his fiancée of 11 years, Barbara Hewitt of Swanzey, his sister, Norma Dill of Lincoln, ME, and two nieces and one nephew who will miss him dearly.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Edward Briggs and Ruth (Parks) Briggs, and high school sweetheart who become his beloved spouse, Marjorie (Walker) Briggs of 53 years.

A Funeral Mass will be held on his 90th birthday in his honor at St Paul Church of St Gabriel Parish in Franklin, NH on Wednesday, May 14th, 2025, at 1:00 pm. Arrangements are under the thoughtful care of Neun Funeral Homes, www.neunfuneralhomes.com .

Edward's life was a testament to service, family, and community. His warm heart, sharp mind, and generous spirit will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Kathy Fuller, his good friend and neighbor, and to the neighborhood in Hampstead, NH for loving grandpa Briggs and helping him whenever he needed their support.
