Charles Gibbs

Charles B. Gibbs, 96, formerly of Franklin, died at NH Veterans Home in Tilton on Feb. 18, 2017. He was born in Saugus, MA on Oct. 1, 1920 the son of Edward and Blanche (Petts) Gibbs II. Charlie was raised in Saugus and later resided in Concord, MA before moving to Franklin several years ago. Mr. Gibbs served in the US Navy from 1942-1945 serving aboard a PT boat in New Guinea. While in Mass., he worked for the former Buttrick Dairy in Arlington and later as a mailman. Charlie worked at the former Arthur S. Brown Co. in Tilton for many years prior to retiring. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean (Gallagher) Gibbs who died in 2012, a daughter, Blanche Gibbs who died in 2012, and a grandson, Ronald Van Luyn, Jr. who died in 1994. Survivors include his children: Charlene Saunders of Greenville, SC, Thomas Gibbs and Christopher Gibbs, both of Franklin, Beatrice Van Luyn of Mechanicsville, VA, and Keith Gibbs of Franklin, 5 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, a sister, Alice Head of Ashland, and nieces and nephews. A service will be held at NH Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy., Boscawen, with military honors, on Friday, Feb. 24, 2017 at 11:00 am.
