Betty J. Adams

August 31, 1935 — February 27, 2025

Betty Jane (Cross) Adams, of Northfield, NH passed away on February 27, 2025. She
was born on August 31, 1935 on Bean Hill Road in the oldest home in Northfield, NH,
the daughter of Frank Herbert Cross, Sr. and Dolly M. Stevens.
She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Norman P Adams, Sr; her parents;
and her brothers, Harold (Bub), Frank (Babe), Fred, and Albert Cross;
and sisters Helen Hill Spitzner, Wilma Hill, Evelyn (Toot) Robinson, and Joan Nelson;
and stepmother Ruby Deragon and several step-brothers and step-sisters.
She is survived by her son Norman -Link- Adams (Karen) of Northfield NH, daughter
Sally Parent (Ken) of Northfield, NH. Niece Betty Fillion (Chris) of Groton NH and
nephew Tim Murphy of Franklin NH. Grandchildren Semra Thompson (Andy), Kayla
Adams (Nathan Johnson), and Lincoln Adams (Caitlin), Brandon Rose (Carrie), Nikki
Tilton (Matt), EJ Rose (Corrine). Great grandchildren Elijah, Lily and Violet Thompson;
Ella and Jack Propri and Scarlett Johnson; Sophia Ritchie and Rowan Campbell;
Bradyn Rose; Nico Castrillon and Dylan Tilton; Julia, Alex and Colby Rose and nieces,
nephews, and Godchildren.
On May 3, 1952 Betty saved a 6 year old boy who was unconscious and floating down
the Merrimack River near Elm Street in Northfield. After many years of not being in
touch - she and David Avery reconnected in 2019 and had the chance to get caught up
on the path each of their lives took through the years. They enjoyed reminiscing about
growing up in the same small town and David lovingly referred to her as his “second
mother”.
Betty worked at several local businesses, including 12 years at J.D. Robinson Building
Supply in Northfield, and for 35 years for Harbour Bus and other local school bus
companies. She truly loved driving the special needs school bus.
Betty was one of the original members of the Tilton/Northfield Fire Department Auxiliary
- working to support the firefighters. She was a member of the American Legion
Auxiliary, Post 49 for 58 years. Betty was a long-time communicant of St. Mary’s/St.
Gabriel’s parish in Tilton/Franklin and she was also a catechism teacher for many years.
Betty and Norman enjoyed many years of motorcycle riding with the Laconia Honda
Gold Wing Club, various road trips throughout the US and in 2000 a round trip cross
country adventure from Portland, Maine to Portland, Oregon on their beloved Honda
Gold Wing with sidecar.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the
Paquette-Neun Funeral Home, 104 Park St., Northfield, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial
will be celebrated on Monday, June 9, 2025 at 10:00 am in St. Joseph Parish in Belmont.
Burial will follow the mass in St. John Cemetery in Tilton.
The Adam’s family would like to express their appreciation to the Merrimack County
Nursing Home for the wonderful care Betty received from their devoted staff and for
the love shown to the family as well.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice in her name.
