Biography FRANKLIN--Arthur L. Gilbert Jr, 65, Oak Hill Rd, Canterbury, died Saturday, December 13, 2014 at his home. "Artie" was born in Franklin on May 5, 1949, the son of Arthur Sr. and Helen (LaPage) Gilbert. Artie was a master of many trades. He served for a short time as a Franklin police officer, owned his own pizza restaurant, installed sky lights in commercial buildings across the country, worked on bridge construction crews, was a maintenance technician at Concord hospital and Concord school district, facilities manager at Odyssey Family Center and recently worked for the town of Northfield performing in various maintenance and heavy equipment related positions. He is a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 49 and VFW Post 1698 men's auxiliary. Artie volunteered many hours at these organizations doing things such as organizing fund raising raffles and more. Artie had a unique talent for making people smile, and bringing humor and lightness to most all situations. Artie was truly altruistic and was concerned more for others than himself regardless of the daily grind. Many were fortunate to have been on the receiving end of his culinary skills that he always credited his mother for. Rarely would you find him not in jeans and a Harley Davidson shirt. Family members include his wife and companion of 40 years Paula Styles Gilbert, daughter Tracy Wilson of Florida, 3 grandsons, and 2 brothers: James L. Gilbert of Laurel, MD and his wife Yong Hui, and Frank P. Gilbert of Colorado Springs, CO and his wife Linda, and a niece and nephews. Arthur was predeceased by his parents Arthur Sr. and Helen Gilbert. Calling hours will be Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014 from 12-2:00 pm at Thibault-Neun Funeral Home, 143 Franklin St, Franklin.
