Annis F. Leone, 90, of Franklin, died at The Peabody Home in Jan. 11, 2011. She was born in Franklin the daughter of Charles and Annis (Chapman) Ford. Annis attended local schools and was a 1938 graduate of Franklin High School. She also graduated from Gordon College with a BA in Theology and Boston Univ. Graduate School with an MA in Education. Her first teaching position was as a teacher's aide at NH Orphan Home teaching classroom music and band. At age 25, she traveled on a Portuguese ship for 2 weeks to teach in the Congo. Annis remained there for several years and served as an inspector of the school system. This involved about 900 classes to visit each year and submitting the statistics on which subsidies were based. Annis married Benjamin Leone in 1972. She taught English and French at Laconia High School until 1976 when she retired. Along with Ben, she was involved in sled dog raising, breeding, and training. She was also an avid gardener who enjoyed running a tractor and tending the earth. Annis has been active in the churches with which she has been involved over the years. She greatly enjoyed music. Annis was able to play any musical instrument, playing the organ, piano, and trumpet in local community orchestras, events, and churches. She was a member of The Ionic-Ragged Mtn. Chapter #20 of The Order of The Eastern Star. Her husband, Benjamin E. Leone died in 1992. She is survived by her cousins and many friends. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Jan. 22nd at 11:00 am at the Baptist Church of Franklin. A Graveside service will be held at Franklin Cemetery in the spring. Donations in memory of Annis may be made to the Franklin Visiting Nurse Association or the Peabody Home Resident Activity Fund.
