Richard Doucet

Richard G. Doucet, 74, died peacefully on November 29, 2016, at the Merrimack County Nursing Home, as a result of Alzheimer's disease. During the past year, he resided at the Mountain Ridge Center where he was lovingly cared for. Richard was born in Franklin, NH on September 10, 1942, the eldest of six children, to Gerard and Jeanne d'Arc (Desloges) Doucet. He was a resident of the Franklin area for most of his life. He graduated in 1960 from Miramar, The Society of the Divine Word Seminary, in Duxbury, MA. Upon graduation, he served his Country in the U.S. Air Force. His civilian career started with Doucet's Market, working side by side with his father in the family business. Upon his father's retirement, he acquired the market and opened a second store in Tilton, known as Doucet's Too. Helping people was his calling so he decided to close the stores. He joined the Franklin Police Department and later the Merrimack County Corrections Facility where he began as a guard and ended his career as its Assistant Superintendent. Richard also served on the Board of the Community Loan Fund of New Hampshire and was active in the Rotary Club, where he served as its President. Family members include his daughter Tina Houten and her husband Mark of Franklin, his twin sons, Dan and his wife Rebecca of Exeter, and Don of Franklin. He leaves his grandchildren, Christopher Houten, Joshua Houten, Haley Doucet, Ben Doucet, and Emma Doucet, and two great grandsons. He was predeceased by his wife, Lorraine, in 2015, and his brother Robert and sister Rachel. He also leaves behind his sisters, Theresa Doucet-McInnis of Amesbury, MA, Rose Doucet of Assonet, MA, Dianne and her husband Tom Ursia of Sanford, Maine, and many nieces and nephews. Richard will be remembered as a person who helped many in his own distinctive joking way and always with a smile. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, Dec. 5, 2016 from 1-3 and 5-7 pm at Thibault-Neun Funeral Home, 143 Franklin St., Franklin, NH. A Mass celebrating Richard's life will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2015 at 10 am in St. Paul Church, School St., Franklin. Burial will follow in NH Veterans Cemetery.
