George J. Barnewold

George J. Barnewold, 67, died unexpectedly after a lengthy illness on September 4, 2021 at Lowell General Hospital. He was born in Queens, New York on August 17, 1954, the son of Frederick and Louise (Kelsch) Barnewold who predeceased him. He leaves behind his loving wife of 27 years, Maryjane Barnewold, or "ball and chain" as he affectionately called her. George spent several years of his youth as a cub scout before wrapping up his education. After graduation, George joined the United States Navy, where he proudly served for several years and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal. Later, he would pursue a technical degree and find employment as a QC Inspector until his retirement due to illness. After George retired professionally, he took on many odd jobs. His favorite, however, was as a driver for a small pharmaceutical company. He would brag for hours about the wildlife he often encountered on his long drives into the mountains of New Hampshire including his favorite; moose, and black bears. George was a unique character, often telling an inappropriate joke and rarely holding his tongue when he had an opinion. Many would say he marched to the beat of his own drum. He enjoyed watching sports and following his favorite teams including the New York Mets, and Boston Celtics. He was a diehard Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan. Then, Tom Brady joined the team and he started cheering on the Patriots in spite. He loved long drives and adventures, and was passionate about photography, often taking pictures of the wildlife he discovered on those journeys. He loved the game of chess. He would give you the shirt off of his back, as long as you didn't make a big deal out of it. He loved blueberry beer and pumpkin pie. He had many animals waiting for him at the Rainbow Bridge, including his beloved bird Dum Dum, and his dogs Lady and Chloe, to name a few. Lastly, and most importantly to his survivors: George enjoyed trips to local casinos and playing Keno and Powerball with his wife. His family kindly requests that he send the winning Powerball numbers from the afterlife as soon as possible. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister-in-law Northeree Barnewold of New York, and his best friends Bob, and Chris who are either waiting for him in Heaven, or preparing a welcoming party in the other place... Surviving him in addition to his wife, Maryjane, are his daughters Heidi (Klein) Hollister and her husband, William of Tewksbury, MA, Heather (Klein) Caron and her husband, Steve, of Lowell, MA, and his favorite little girl, Belinda "Bubby" Klein and her partner Douglas Goodwin, of Manchester, NH. He was Papa to nine grandchildren: Jordan, Sara, Emma, Leah, Kiley, Hanna, Josh, Savanna, and Grumpy to Cole. One brother, Frederick "Butch" Barnewold, of New York, one sister, his "Sissy" Louise (Barnewold) Denny and her husband, Raymond, of Washington. His "only and favorite" niece, Kathryn Boyd, and her husband Thomas, and their daughters- his great- nieces, Clara and Juliet, of New Jersey. His nephew, Jacob Denny, of Oregon. George also leaves behind several other nephews, and his longtime friend, Jim, who will miss him dearly. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Sept. 10, 2021 from 10:00am-12:00 pm at Thibault-Neun Funeral Home, 143 Franklin St., Franklin, NH. Interment will be at NH Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen at 1:00 pm with military honors.
