Shirley A. Maher, 69, of Northfield, died at CRVNA Hospice House in Concord on Aug. 25, 2017.
She was born in Franklin on Feb. 18, 1948 the daughter of Honorios and Beatrice (Greenwood) Roy.
Shirley was raised in Franklin and graduated from St. Mary School, Franklin High School, Class of 1966, and Pierce College for Women, Class of 1968.
She was formerly employed as a secretary to the Superintendant of Schools in Concord, Union School District from 1968 through 1978. She later operated Beau-Fir Tack Shop in Tilton from 1978 -1983.
She assisted her husband as office manager of Maher’s Welding Service until 2007.
Shirley assisted in establishing the Tall Pines Equestrian Club, which included the children’s club called the Pine Cones. She was an avid horse rider, every chance she had you’d find her on one of her horses. She loved all animals and will be missed by her dog Spike, bird Jacob and her fish.
She was an accomplished pianist and organist; she used to play at two local churches St Paul’s and St Mary’s.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 47 years, Richard J. Maher of Northfield. Richard would like to thank the many caregivers who have helped care for Shirley over the years including GSIL, VNA and Hospice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 1, 2017 at 11:00 am in St. Mary of The Assumption Church, Chestnut St., Tilton. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in Franklin.
